SWARM INTELLIGENCE AS AN EFFECTIVE TECHNIQUE FOR IMAGE ENHANCEMENT IN IMAGE PROCESSING

Abstract


Swarm intelligence (SI) is one of the nature inspired computing technique, inspired by the collective behavior of decentralized, self-organized systems, either natural or artificial. These techniques are proved to be effective in addressing problems in almost all stages of digital image processing in computer science. Ant colony optimization, Particle swarm optimization, Bee colony optimization and Bacterial foraging optimization are some of the popular optimization techniques coming under swarm intelligence. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a population based stochastic optimization technique inspired by social behavior of bird flocking or fish schooling and it has applications in many areas in digital image processing.  Image enhancement is one such area where an application of optimization capability of PSO finds a significant place.
